BUILDING A SUCCESSFUL I.T CAREER
by Ajoku Kelechi J.
Author "I.T": Information Technology embraces a wide range of courses under it which has been discovered to be really confusing for most people interested in becoming I.T professionals, as they are not sure the path to take in acheiving this goal.
Becoming an I.T Professional is very rewarding these days but without proper knownlegde and planning on the right I.T career path, one can end up really frustrated. I will split I.T into two main areas

  • Electrical
  • Computer

The electrical aspect of I.T is more of a Telecommunication section. They are responsible for the installation of transmitters and receivers. In this section we have the BTS and Radio engineers.

While the Computer section is defragmented into various branches:
Computer

  • Computer Science
  • Computer Engineering

Computer Science: This is a branch of I.T that is primarily into Software development and integration, Database management and Programing. In other to excel in this path; you must have a flare for programming languages - C++, Cobol, AB.Net, SQL etc
Computer Engineering: This branch of I.T is primarily into Hardware development/maintenance, Network Systems Design, Implementation and management.

Over the years it has been discovered that the above classifications are mainly for undergraduate courses as many I.T professionals overlap there skills at the professional level..

Taking the Right Path: Before diving into any I.T career path, you must find out what it involves and if you have the passion for it. I have met a couple of individuals who say they have Oracle certification or microsoft certification and would like to take the cisco certification exam. This is really not going to take you far because you will find yourself being "a jack of all trade and master of non"

Oracle is a Database management certification, so you don't have any business here if you love to be a Network Professional
Cisco certifications are for Network Professionals so if you are interested in Database or Server management then you are in the wrong place.

The point I am making is that you should take out time to plan out in line with your passion what branch of I.T you would like to be a Master.

Avoid taking certification exams just becomes there is money to make from becoming certified in that field. If you do this, you will soon have yourself to blame as you will not attain your full potential and presently, Companies are not just out for your certifications alone but for what your certification can offer so if you are not delivering as they expect of you, then you are half way unemployed as someone will soon replace you.

As Technology advances, this certification are modified to meet up with the needs, so recertification is unavoidable and in some cases a space of just two years is all that is spared to enjoy your present certification status or get phased out.

A lot of this certifications need you to take between 3 to 7 different exams before you can attain the peak qualification. This exams are really time and money intensive, so your only will power to go thru to the end will be your passion for that particular I.T path.

All these are not meant to scare you from getting an I.T certification but to help get the right one as there are great and unending benefit but financially and socially.

Dig in through the List of I.T certification at your right and make the right decision.

Welcome in advance to the world of Brains, this what the I.T certified Professionals are.
